The Inspiration:

"Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?...Why should we tolerate a diet of weak poisons, a home in insipid surroundings, a circle of acquaintances who are not quite our enemies, the noise of motors with just enough relief to prevent insanity? Who would want to live in a world which is just not quite fatal?"

- Rachel Carson, author of Silent Spring

In the classic environmental book Silent Spring, conservationist Rachel Carson questioned if our current world, the world that's 'not quite fatal,' is the best we could do for ourselves and future generations. It's a question worth asking since many of the climate change conversations I'm in are about mitigating risk, saving what we can, and living with the consequences of pollution and increased greenhouse gases. These conversations are integral to protecting our future, but can also be defeating. We've seen the worst-case scenarios for climate change a thousand times, but what about the best case for creating the just, green future we deserve?

The Call for Submissions:

Share your vision of a just, green future by submitting a painting, poem, drawing, or other art form that shows your dream for a thriving people and planet.

The first 38* submissions will be published in the "Our Green Futures" supplemental zine. This zine will only be available as a limited-run supplement to Climate Change Anxiety: The Zine, which will be available to order on May 18th, 2021. All profits from Climate Change Anxiety: The Zine and the "Our Green Futures" zine will go to supporting the composer and cast of Climate Change Anxiety: The Musical.

All featured artists receive one free copy of the "Our Green Futures" zine.

*38 is a weird number, right? Yes, and it's the number of one page submissions for a 40 page zine, minus the front and back cover!
